You need to go to your local bank and apply for a merchant account to accept credit cards for payment.

Or you can use PayPal if you're a small business owner to get you started. I'd recommend this route; otherwise, you *may* have to dish out a "small" deposit/reserve which can be a fortune ($10,000 USD or up) for chargebacks, depending on your relationship with your bank.

Since the poster is outside of the US, not all payment processors can do business in all parts of the world.
I personally know that India has business partnership rules that requires that any company doing business in India has an Indian business partner. China and Russia have similar requirements as do a lot of other countries. Payment services add even more twists as this involves their economies. So your recommendation is likely not appropriate in this situation.

I've used PayPal on two of my sites. On one, we only accept payment by PayPal. It's a small volume site.
On another site, we've set up PayPal as the merchant account solution. I have experience with another online merchant account vendor. So far, I'm pretty happy with PayPal. Unlike normal vendors, they charge a fixed percentage irrespective of the mix of cards being used (plus a charge per transaction).
My credit cards online blog (creditcardsonline101.com) goes through the experience in some detail.
I have no idea if they work for India.

Hi. I am starting a small e-business this summer and am trying to figure out how to open a merchant account from a bank in Japan so that I can accept credit card orders.
Any cool tips regarding merchant accounts, site hosting, taxes etc. from someone who has done it and lived to tell the tale?
Thanks in advance,

Regardless of where you are located in the world, your best bet is to go and talk to your local banks and find the one that offers the best rates. While the PayPals and the like of the world may be able to service you, there is a lot to be said having a banking relationship with a local bank. They will usually provide you better service and will typically work through any problems you might encounter as your business starts up.
